Silver medallist Vijay to take part in Gun for Glory meet

Melbourne Commonwealth Games gold medalist Samaresh Jung, Rahi Sarnobat, Heena Siddhu and Annu Raj Singh are the other top pistol shooters who would be seen in action in the event sponsored by SEED Infotech and being held at the Shivaji Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi.

Participating shooters in the air rifle category are Anjali Bhagwat, Mumpi Das, Suma Shirur, Ayonika Paul and Tejaswini Mulay.

The national level event is being organised by the Gagan Narang Sports Promotion Foundation under the auspices of the National Rifle Association of India with support from the Maharashtra Rifle Association and Department of Sport - Government of Maharashtra, it was announced at a media conference today.

 

Pawan Kumar Singh, co-founder and director of the academy, said the tournament would be inaugurated by London Games bronze medallist woman boxer M C Mary Kom.

Sports Minister Ajay Maken is scheduled to witness the championship.

"This is the second consecutive year of this prestigious tournament and we all are upbeat for taking it to the next level, especially due of the medal (bronze) winning performance of Gagan at the London Olympics," said Singh.

For the first time in Maharashtra, events would be held for shotgun shooters too at the shotgun range.
