Silver prices rose Rs 34 to Rs 39,515 per kg in futures trade today as speculators built up positions, ignoring a weak global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in May was trading higher by Rs 34, or 0.09 per cent, at Rs 39,515 per kg in a business turnover of 4 lots.

Also, the white metal for delivery in March was up Rs 29, or 0.07 per cent, at Rs 39,998 per kg in 290 lots.

Analysts said the rise in prices was mostly attributed to building up of fresh positions by speculators despite a weak trend in global market.

Meanwhile, silver fell 0.12 per cent to USD 16.97 an ounce in Singapore today.
