Considering the acute shortage of labour for cotton picking, SIMA Cotton Development and Research Association (CDRA) has launched a cotton plucking machine.

The machine has been designed by Point Industries, a sister concern of Sharp Pumps.

The price of the machine is fixed at Rs 9,900 including taxes and agent commision, SIMA CDRA Chairman C K Narayanasaami said.

The association has asked the state government to provide Rs 5,000 subsidy per machine and also bring it either under the exempted commodities list of VAT Act or five per cent VAT list, instead of 14.5 per cent.
