SIMA signs MOU with TN to set up two textile processing parks

Southern India Mills Association today signed two MOUs with the Tamil Nadu government to set up two dedicated textile processing parks -- one in Cuddalore and another in Ramanathapuram district.

Both the parks would be set up at a cost of Rs 500 crore each and generate employment to 10,000 people directly and 25,000 people indirectly, sources said.

The Cuddalore park, which was planned some eight years ago, got approval from the Government for necessary effluent discharge--marine discharge and treatment technology and 10 large companies will set up processing units at the park, which was expected to commence operation in another 18 months.
 

Sipcot will identify and allot 250 to 300 acres required for setting up the park in Ramanathapuram, where 40 to 50 units will come up, targeting small and medium textile units from Tirupur, Karur and Salem.

SIMA is in the process of identifying stake holders and talking to various associations, including technological experts, for successfully setting up the park and with approval expected in 30 days, it would take three years for commencing operation, after setting up necessary infrastructure and facilities, the sources said.
