Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wants Simhastha (Kumbh Mela) scheduled in Ujjain in 2016 to serve as a global platform for exchanging spiritual messages on environment and value-based lifestyle among a host of other issues.
Chouhan asked the officers concerned yesterday to make Simhastha 2016 a global religious forum for spreading spiritual messages among the global community on environment, value-based lifestyle, women empowerment and religious teachings of unity and harmony, a statement said today.
The Chief Minister instructed the Chief Secretary to draw out a calendar of global events and seek cooperation of committed non-official organizations, subject experts in organising the Simhastha 2016.

Chouhan directed the officials to start a series of global level symposia and seminars from April this year on the issue.
He said that an intensive cleanliness campaign could be launched for Rudra Sagar and Kshir Sagar by involving people on a massive scale, the statement said.
Chouhan said that he will also participate in the cleanliness drive.
It was informed that the civic infrastructure to be built for Simhastha-2016 shall be permanent.
He asked the concerned officers to deal with encroachment issues with sensitivity saying that participation of all communities and religious heads be ensured.
The Chief Minister said there should be a dialogue with them at regular intervals to achieve consensus on different issues, it said.
Those who attended the meeting included Minister for Urban Administration Kailash Vijayvargiya, Minister for School Education Paras Jain and Chief Secretary Antony Desa.
