Delhi Labour Minister Gopal Rai today issued a slew of directions, including simplifying the registration process of labourers so that they can avail the benefits under the various welfare schemes.

Rai issued the directions after holding a meeting with more than 35 trade unions of construction sector workers to understand and gather first hand information about their welfare.

Rai also directed the Labour Department and Delhi Construction Board to organise more camps for registering workers so that larger number of labourers could avail the benefits of the various welfare schemes.

"Presently, the Delhi Construction Board has 18 welfare schemes and sufficient cess funds to the tune of 1,628 Crores, which have not been adequately disbursed to the registered construction workers.

"The board organizes site registration camps and has listed more than 2.5 lakh construction workers, out of which 1.10 lakh workers have renewed their registration. So far, 328 registration camps have been organized by the board and the Labour Department jointly," a Delhi government release said.

The minister also instructed the labour department authorities "to revise and increase various entitlements of monitory benefits under present welfare schemes of the board for the benefit of construction workers."

He also underlined the "need and necessity of skill development to create more job opportunities for making the life of workers better.
