Singapore offered guest of honour status at World Book Fair

India today offered Singapore to be the 'guest of honour country' during next year's New Delhi World Book Fair to be held between February 14 to 22, 2015.

The offer was made by HRD Minister Smriti Irani to Singapore's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Law K Shanmugam when he called on her here today.

During their interaction, Irani said National Book Trust of India is translating many literary works of Singapore including a book titled "50 Stories from My Life" authored by the former President of Singapore S R Nathan, said a Ministry statement.

Both the Ministers also discussed strengthening of educational relations between the two countries and suggested a platform of officials which could regularly meet to chart a way for collaboration, particularly in the field of science education, research and skill development.
 

The HRD Minister also proposed an 'India connect' programme to enable students of Singapore visit educational institutions in India, the statement said.

Shanmugam also mentioned about year-long activities planned from August 2014 onwards to celebrate 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries from August.
