In order to prevent infection, by using cleaned of sterilised forceps during endoscopy, the city based VGM Hospital has started using disposable forceps in their facility.
Being a major gastro centre, the hospital was using at least 20 forceps per day, cleaned by the plain water first and savalon, and soaked for 20 minutes in Cidex and cleaned by pure water and used for the next patient after drying for one day, hospital chairman, V G Mohanprasad told reporters here today.
Since it was not not affordable to use and dispose this type of forceps due to its cost of around rs. 5,000 to rs.6,000, the hospital started using disposal forceps, which cost a few hundred rupees, he said.
The procedure is termed as tissue acquisition with the medical device being used called 'biopsy forceps, which reduced the possibilities of infections, besides ensuring adequate tissue sample to the pathology lab, Mohanprasad said.
