West Bengal, which is gasping for more industrial investments, the recent Supreme Court verdict on land acquisition for Tata Motors at Singur came as a morale booster for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Industry captains of the state, refusing to be identified, were of the view that the verdict was a big political victory for her, but the fate of future industrialisation of West Bengal might have entered the dark zone.
The verdict, which ordered that land acquired for the abandoned Tata Motors plant be returned back to the farmers, would thwart the possibility of any entrepreneur showing interest in making fresh investments here.

The much-awaited entry of IT major Infosys in West Bengal have not materialised yet as the state government is reluctant to grant SEZ status which the company seeks for its project.
The same applies to the second unit of Wipro which is also stuck for similar reasons.
The tea industry, a major employment generator, is also suffering as many gardens are lying closed in north Bengal.
