India and China today agreed that the Joint Working Group, established to promote facilitation in film sector, would meet on the sidelines of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2014 at Goa, the government said today.

The proposed meeting would involve the stakeholders from both the countries in an attempt to concretise cooperation in film sector with specific proposals and projects, the Informartion and Broadcasting ministry said in a statement today.

The decision was taken at a meeting between I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar and Cai Fuchao, China's Minister for State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT), here today.

Officials said it was also agreed to work within an institutional framework in the light of the audio visual co-production agreement signed today as part of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to India.

During the discussions, Javadekar emphasized that steps needed to be taken to include television as a component of the co-production agreement. For this purpose, a separate proposal could be moved to facilitate the matter, the statement said.

On IFFI, 2014, the Minister mentioned that as China was the focus country, the participation of known stars from China along with the choice of Chinese films would go a long way in strengthening the exchange and cooperation in the domain of films.

The strategy to promote the increased presence of Indian films in China was also discussed.

The agreement provided a platform to enhance cooperation in critical and contemporary themes related to cinema, the I&B Ministry statement said.

Participating in the discussions, Secretary (I&B) Bimal Julka said the structured agenda for proposed cooperation could formalize the student exchanges between premier film institutes of the two countries.
