A sister-duo was arrested here on charges of drug peddling as 500 grams of a suspicious white powdery substance was recovered from them, police said today.

The two sisters, identified as Ranjit Kaur (21) and Balbir Kaur (20) of village Buhani, were arrested last night at a police outpost near Civil Hospital on the Phagwara-Palahi road, they said.

The sisters who were walking on the road, on sighting the police outspost, aroused suspicion when they suddenly turned and started moving backwards, they said.

They were then apprehended and on search 250 grams each of the suspected powder was recovered from their possession, police added.

Both were arrested under Sections 21,61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Preliminary questioning of the duo revealed that they were involved in drug supplying and that they charged Rs 500 for one gram of heroin sachets, police said.

They also informed the police that they got the supply from Amritsar.
