Sisters drown in Kalisindh river in Shajapur

Two sisters drowned in Kalisindh river at village Tingajpur while taking part in Sanjha festival, a police official said.

They were identified as Sonam (12) and Monica (9), said police.

The sisters had gone to the river to immerse Sanjha (a popular 15-day-long festival celebrated by unmarried girls by drawing different images using cowdung and other colourful material in Malwa region) when the incident took place, Salsalai police station in-charge R S Sharma said.

They were rescued from the river water and rushed to a hospital where doctors declared them brought dead, said police.
