Congress candidate from Punjab's Sangrur Lok Sabha seat Vijay Inder Singla today filed his nomination papers.

Singla, who is seeking re-election, filed his nomination papers before the Returning Officer.

He is crossing swords with Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa of SAD and satirist-turned-politician Bhagwant Mann of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

After filing his nomination papers, Singla whose candidature is supported by the Peoples Party of Punjab (PPP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (Longowal) dared his opponents to an open debate at any time and place.

Singla said his opponents are trying to misguide the electorate by false propaganda on the issue of development.

"After noticing it, I want to clarify certain things, so an open debate is the best way to do it," he said.

Alleging that his opponents had failed to bring in development to the area during their tenure, he said they do not want to see this area losing its tag of the socially and economically backward region and "because of this factor they have started opposing me".

Listing various developmental works implemented during his tenure, Singla urged the electorate to give him another chance as he has been able to fulfil all his poll promises.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and sitting MLA Rajinder Kaur Bhattal exhorted the people to be vigilant against the evil design of fundamental forces led by BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, alleging that these forces are trying to disrupt the secular structure of the country.
