"The situation in Kokrajhar, Chirang and other places is slowly improving. There have been no new incidents of violence during the last few days," he said here.
"The sense of fear and insecurity among the refugees and affected people is dissipating and they are regaining confidence. So far, 2.42 lakh people have gone back home from camps and we are also trying to ensure that the rest of the people in camps are also able to do so," he said.
During the height of the violence in late July, around 4.86 lakh people had taken shelter in camps across districts of lower Assam. A total of 96 people lost their lives in the violence.
Gogoi said the next meeting of the coordination committee, which was formed last week to oversee rehabilitation of the displaced people, would be held at Kokrajhar on September 6.
"The meeting would discuss nitty gritty regarding bringing back refugees to their homes...We have received full support from various political parties and other outfits in this regard," he said.
The state government, he said, has not banned processions, demonstration and dharnas. "We have only requested political parties and other outfits to refrain from holding demonstrations and dharnas taking into consideration the current situation in the state," he said.
The Assam government had last week banned bandhs in the state for a period of one month.
