Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir today expressed hope that the situation in violence-hit Shillong in Meghalaya would return to normalcy soon.
"Our battalion has gone there. Military is also taking care. We hope it will become peaceful," he told PTI here on the sidelines of an event.
The Meghalaya capital has been in the grip of violence since Thursday following a clash between the Sikh residents of its Punjabi Lane area and the Khasi drivers of state-run buses.
Life was limping back to normalcy in with no fresh clashes reported even as authorities reimposed curfew in the entire city this evening as a precautionary measure.
Ahir was speaking on the sidelines of felicitation of K Ramulu on completion of one year in office as member of National SC Commission.
The Union Minister said the NDA government was committed to ensuring justice to Dalits, Adivasis, OBCs and all other sections.

Asserting that it would not let any injustice against SCs and STs, he said the government would take legislative measures, if need be, to ensure more protection for them.
Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawarchand Gehlot, who spoke earlier, said the BJP-led NDA government worked for development and harmony among different sections of society.
Noting that the government had strengthened the SCs/STs (Prevention of Atrocities Act), he said a compensation of more than Rs eight lakh is provided to be given to the victims.
