After witnessing tense moments following desecration of a religious place, communally- sensitive Mudhole and Bhainsa towns of Adilabad district today remained peaceful as police kept a tight vigil.

Tension prevailed in both the towns yesterday, after it came to light that a place of worship in Mudhole had been desecrated on Friday night, police said.

The situation is totally peaceful now. Security has been beefed up with deployment of personnel of Armed Reserve Force and Quick Reaction Team (QRT). The forces are patrolling and pickets have been set up in sensitive areas of Mudhole and Bhainsa towns," Bhainsa DSP R Giridhar told PTI over phone.

Shops and business establishments opened and people did their routine jobs, he said.

Yesterday, as the news about the religious place spread, members of a particular community gathered in large numbers and protested on streets, though police brought the situation under control and took some suspects for their alleged role in the incident.

Police held peace committee meetings, the DSP said, adding that two police parties were sent to Dharmabad town in neighbouring Maharashtra state to pick up more suspects, as that town had also witnessed such a incident.

"No one has been arrested so far. However, some suspects are being interrogated for their role in the incident," another police officer said.
