Six arrested for duping people in Valley

Police today arrested six persons, including non-locals, for luring people for investing in a fictitious company, thus duping them of their money.

"Police averted a major fraud when it unearthed a fraudulent telecom company that was duping gullible people for investing in the company for providing Wi-Fi network in the valley," a police spokesperson said.

Acting on a tip-off, a police party raided the office of the fraudulent telecom company "India Telecom Services" at Karan Nagar here.

During the raid, police found major irregularities in their operations, the spokesperson said.

The company induced general public to invest in their company with an amount of Rs 1,47,000 each with a promise to repay the amount within 18 months with partnership in their profits, he said.
 

The company officials claimed to provide Wi-Fi internet to remote villages of the Valley, but it prima-facie failed to produce any legal document of their operations, the spokesperson said.

He said police registered a case and investigation was taken up.

During the investigation, he said, it was found that the fraudulent company officials had managed to get investments to the tune of more than Rs 8 lakh from different gullible people and had started creating a network across the Valley to draw off huge amounts of money from the people.

The timely action of police succeeded in averting in what could have been a major fraud of huge proportion, the spokesperson said, adding, the office of the fraudulent telecom company has been sealed.

Police has so far arrested six fraudsters - Parthoo Sarothi Mondal, M Sambil Alam, Rishav Prassad, Pushpandu Patra and Nasir-ud-Din Malla - all residents of West Bengal and Akeel Gowhar Parray, a resident of Bemina, who were operating the company.
