Six arrested for robbery at Nutan's bungalow

Police have arrested six persons for robbery at the late Hindi film actress Nutan's bungalow at Parsik Hill in the neighbouring Thane district.

The accused were identified as Uday Jha (19), Suraj Singh (18), Chandan Singh (20), Jitu Gautam (19), Chandan Patwa (21) and a 17-year-old youth, all residents of Kalwa near Thane.

In the wee hours of May 4, the accused entered the late actress' bungalow at Parsik Hill after pelting stones at the security guards there and threatening them with a sword and knives, police said.

They decamped with silver plates, an antique sword, and some other valuables, worth Rs 50,000 in total.
 

Security manager of the property, Kailash Nigudkar, lodged a complaint with Mumbra police.

On May 5, police got information that some youths were moving around suspiciously in Reti Bunder area. When taken in custody, they confessed to the robbery, police said.

Police recovered the antique sword stolen from the bungalow alongwith some weapons used in the crime, said senior inspector R K Tayade of Mumbra police.

The accused, all of them jobless, wanted money to spend on liquor and drugs, he said. Further probe is on.
