Six arrested for stealing ashtadhatu idols in UP

Six persons were arrested for allegedly stealing three ashtadhatu idols, estimated worth Rs 1.5 crore, from a prominent temple here, police said today.

The three ashtadhatu idols were stolen late last night from Shri Ram Kirtan Sabha temple and have an estimated market value worth Rs 1.5 crore, manager of the temple Anil Dwivedi said in the complaint.

Launching probe, police soon recovered the idols from the residence of one of the accused, who along with five others working as sweeper in the temple have been booked, Superintendent of Police (City) R S Gautam told PTI.

"Immediately we started investigation and within few hours of our investigation we got the clue and recovered the statues from the house of one sweeper Pardeep Valmiki, the resident of city area in Faizabad," the SP said.
 

Pardeep's accomplice identified as Pawan, Vivek, Vijay, Sikki and Bablu - all working as cleaners in the temple - have also been arrested, Gautam added.
