Six arrested for taking part in procession with arms

Six persons were arrested in the city for participating in a procession allegedly carrying deadly weapons, the police said today.

The procession, attended by at least 250 supporters, was organised by Mahavir Seva Samiti on the occasion of Mahavir Hanuman Jayanti near Hanuman Mandir, Tala Bridge last night.

The six arrested allegedly carried deadly weapons like swords, chopper, bhojali, and knife, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.

"There were some 200-250 supporters who participated in the rally in the Tala Bridge last night. Midway during the procession, some processionists started displaying deadly weapons like swords, chopper, bhojali, knife in a violent mood," the officer said.
 

The rally was stopped midway and several processionists were detained, he said.

The police started a suo motu case against the six and booked them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
