Six men, who allegedly attempted to loot a truck, were arrested here, police said today.

The accused -- Rishi Kumar (30), Rohit (24), Sonu Sisodia (28), Saleem (26), Dharam Singh (35) and Rakesh Kumar (24) - were arrested yesterday from Ruchi Vihar, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ishwar Singh.

One of the arrested, Rohit, works as a driver with the Delhi Jal Board, they added.

On the intervening night of July 29 and 30, the police were informed about an unsuccessful truck dacoity attempt.

Devan told the police that while he, along with his helper, was heading towards Bhiwadi, Rajasthan in a canter truck laden with copper scrap worth Rs 40 lakh, a car obstructed their way, the police said.

After overtaking the truck from behind near Shiv Murti, Rangpuri, NH-8, three men pushed him and the helper into the car at gunpoint.

One of the men took to the steering wheel of the truck. However, before the truck could be driven away, another truck belonging to Devan's employer that was following it arrived there and its driver raised an alarm.

Scared, the men fled from the spot in their car with Deva and the helper, leaving the truck behind.

While being driven around, Devan and the driver were physically assaulted, and later dumped at an isolated place near Sector-23 Gurugram, Haryana.

After working on inputs about the accused, the police received information that they would be visiting Ruchi Vihar in order to conduct a recce of several commercial godowns located there for committing dacoity.

The six men were nabbed from Ruchi Vihar, Rangpuri area yesterday.

During interrogation, the accused told the police that they had planned the dacoity based on "insider information", said the officer.

Police seized an illegal firearm along with three live cartridges from the possession of Kumar. Efforts are to identify the alleged "insider".
