The BSF in Meghalaya today arrested six Bangladeshi nationals who illegally entered the country through the porous border.

During interrogation, the six -- all hailing from Sylhet district of Bangladesh -- said they intended to find jobs as daily wage labours in the coal mines at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills district, BSF spokesperson R Gandhi said.

They were identified as Bhurauddin (21), Tajuddin (19), Md Lakman Hussain (20), Samem Alam (20), Nanty Das (22), Juber Ahmed (22).

Illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Nepal were recruited as cheap labours in coal fields across the state, a government official said.

Meghalaya shares a 443-km border with Bangladesh, part of which is porous and bad terrain areas are difficult to man.

The apprehended persons were handed over to the authorities concerned, Gandhi said.
