Acting on a complaint by NGO 'International Justice Mission', RDO-in-charge of Arakkonam Revenue Division in Ranipet G Kumar conducted the rescue operation at the unit in Ambarishipuram village, they said.

Investigations revealed that the six were brought out of the facility after approximately 12 years in bondage, they said.

"The victims were being paid Rs 8 per each day, way below the Tamil Nadu Minimum Wage for agriculture work of Rs 100 per day," they said, adding that the labourers were denied freedom of movement and go out of the facility.

Kumar later issued release certificates to the six, officially identifying them as victims of bonded labour and entitling them to government rehabilitation funds.
