At least six cases of possible child marriages were registered with the district headquarters control room here ahead of the holy occasion of "Akshaya Tritiya" falling tomorrow, an official said today.

"Five cases of possible child marriages were registered yesterday and the sixth one today in the district headquarters control room," he said in an official statement issued here.

A control room was set up to check the child marriages following which District Collector Anandi directed the sub divisional magistrates concerned to investigate the matter and to take action against the parents of the minors.

The District Collector has directed all the district officials and employees to keep a tight vigil over the possible child marriages and to take prompt action immediately against those found involved in such marriages.

Despite the tight vigil by the government authorities and non-government organisations, a large number of child marriages are solemnised every year on Akshay Tritaya or Akha Teej in Meena, Gurjar, Mali, Banjara, Barva and other communities in Rajasthan.
