The district administration had sent stool samples of affected people in Sinipai, Sunger and Kashipur grampanchayats to the laboratory of Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) at Bhubaneswar for pathological test.

"RMRC found Vibrio Cholerae bacteria in the samples of six patients belonging to Kashipur grampanchayat", Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), KVS Choudhury said.

In an effort to curb spread of the disease, the administration in the tribal dominated district had sounded an alert and initiated measures to sensitise the people to avail medical help, he said.

Health workes were pressed into service in all the 512 villages under three grampanchayats with at least one worker remaining in charge of each village.

"The district administration is strictly monitoring the situation and initiating preventive measures", the CDMO said.
