Six cops die as truck hits their jeep

Six Punjab Police personnel, including four constables, were killed and 11 injured when a truck rammed into their jeep here today, police said.

The jeep was carrying 17 police personnel when the accident happened near village Lohari, 10-km from here, they said.

The dead were a head constable, four constables, one of them a woman, and a home guard, police said.

Woman constable Raj Kaur, aged 20, who died in the mishap, hailed from village Panjkoha in Fatehgarh Sahib.

All of them were posted at Khamano Police Station and were on their way to attend a police parade at Mohadian here, police said.
 

Three of the injured were referred to PGI, Chandigarh, for treatment.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed shock over the tragic death of the police personnel.

Promising all help to the bereaved families, they directed the concerned authorities to provide immediate medical treatment to the injured.
