Kounsar Nag is a high altitude meadow surrounded by thick forests and a beautiful lake, which is considered to be sacred by the Hindus who go on pilgrimage at the beginning of Sharavan month of Hindu calender.
The pilgrims will stay at the base camp at Harshu village in Mahore, then proceed for Kounsar Nag and pay obeisance on the holy day of Nag Panchami on July 23, District Development Commissioner (DDC), Reasi, Nirmal Sharma said.
The yatra would cover different areas of the Reasi district including Salal, Arnas, Dharmari, Mahore, Chasana and Sungri to reach Kounsar Nag.
Mahore-Kounsar Nag woodland was once the safe haven of foreign mercenaries and operational hub for their terror activities.
The Tourism Ministry has reviewed arrangements for the smooth conduct of yatra discussed various arrangements, including medicare, transportation, boarding and lodging, security and uninterrupted power and water supply.
Six medical teams would be stationed at specified points. Army would provide tents for the pilgrims at Harshu village.
