At least six people were killed and 15 others injured after a speeding truck plowed a Lower Manhattan bike path today.
The driver of the truck, hired from Home Depot, was arrested by the police not before he opened fires with his gun in his attempt to flee.
"The suspect is in custody," New York Police Department (NYPD) said.

"There are several fatalities and numerous people injured," the NYPD said. The local media, however, initially put the figures to six deaths and 15 injuries.
The vehicle continued south striking another vehicle.
"The suspect exited the vehicle displaying imitation firearms & was shot by NYPD," the police said. The NYPD was soon expected to address the media when the reports last came in.
Eyewitness Eugene Duff, 44, told New York Daily News that he saw white Home Depot truck run down a pair of CitiBike riders as the driver sped along the busy path off the Hudson River.
A police officer was apparently shot and suffered a minor injury.
