At least six people have died of diarrhoea in the last week at Lakhipur area of Cachar district, health department official said today.
Joint Director (Health) Dr S J Das said that a woman, identified as 45-year old Eliza Begum, died yesterday in Silchar Medical College Hospital taking the death toll to six.
Begum was the first case to be brought to the hospital while the others died in two tea gardens--Dilkhoosh and Lakhipur tea garden and another in Narayandohar area.
The victims of Dilkhoosh tea garden are 16-year old Swapan Chasa, 18-year old Munni Goala and a two-year old male child while nine-year old Shiva Karmakar died in Lakhipur tea garden and 29-year old Biswajit Majhi in Narayandohar area.
Das told PTI here that a medical team has already visited the affected area and health camps are being held in the area.
Silchar Medical College Hospital Superintendent DR S Baishya said no new cases of diarrhoea have been reported during the last 24 hours.
