Six drown in two separate incidents in Bihar

Six people today drowned in two separate incidents in Jehanabad and Jamui districts of Bihar, police said.

In the first incident, three children drowned in a pond in Jehanabad district during immersion of an idol.

The incident happened at Rasalpur village when siblings Suraj Kumar and Jyoti Kumari, and their cousin Ankit aged between 10 and 13 years slipped and fell into deep waters while immersing an idol, Kako Block Development Officer, Navkunj Kumar said.

No adults were accompanying the children, he said.

In another incident, three women drowned while washing clothes, police said.

The incident happened at Kevaal village under the jurisdiction of Gidhaur police station in the district, the police said.
 

A 40-year-old woman, Ramvati had gone to a pond to wash clothes along with her daughter Sulekha Kumari (18) and another villager Seema Kumari (18), officer-in-charge of Gidhaur police station, Brajesh Kumar said.

Sulekha tripped and fell into deep waters while washing clothes and Seema jumped into the pond to rescue her, Kumar said.

When both began drowning, Ramvati too jumped into the pond in a desperate bid to save the two girls, he said.

However, all of them drowned, he said.

Their bodies were later fished out of the pond by the villagers, Kumar said.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
