At least six persons are feared dead and 10 have been safely rescued as fire raged in a two-storey purse factory in New Ranjeet Nagar area of Central Delhi this evening, police said.

According to the fire department officials, they received a call informing the fire around 5.50 pm.

Seven fire tenders were pressed into service and it took over three hours to douse the fire.

Fire personnel said initial enquiry has suggested that a electrical short circuit caused the fire.

According to an eyewitness, several workers were inside the factory when the fire broke out at the ground floor of the building in the congested area. Soon blazes spread to other floors and rooms were filled with smoke. By the time fire tenders reached, blazes had captured the entire building.

Rescue and relief operations were going on till late evening. Further investigations are underway, said a police officer.
