Six fire force personnel were today suspended for allegedly renting out a fire engine for students of an Engineering College at Adoor in the district as part of their Onam festival celebrations in the campus.

A group of Onam revellers had climbed on top of a Fire Engine Unit and drove inside the College campus run by IHRD yesterday. They even pumped water onto students to enable them to dance in the shower.

The incident sparked protests from various quarters and it was also alleged that the Fire Engine Unit was rented out to students without following guidelines and norms.

Officials, including the station Chief, were suspended after a preliminary internal inquiry, officials said.

The incident came a few days after the death of a girl student at the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram after a jeep driven by Onam revellers rammed into the girl on August 19.
