A local court today sentenced six persons to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of a bus driver in June 2009.

Additional Sessions Judge P S Brahmabhatt convicted Yagnesh Pandit, Prakash Goswami, Alpesh Bagdai, Chetan, Hitesh Bhanderi and Ketan Vaishnav for killing Narendrasinh Jhala on June 9, 2009, public prosecutor Pravin Kotecha said.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the accused, he said.

The incident took place in 2009 when Jhala, who was employed as a driver with a private travels company, allegedly harassed a woman, after which the six convicts attacked him with sharp weapons and killed him, police said.

The six were later arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Jhala's friend, Jaypalsinh Jadeja, with Malaviya Nagar police station.

Meanwhile, the convicts have decided to challenge the verdict in Gujarat High Court.
