A local court has awarded life imprisonment to six persons for murdering a youth here in 2001 over a personal enmity.

22-year-old Jagseer Singh was shot dead on November 2, 2001.

School teacher Darshan Singh, his brother and veterinary doctor Gurdev Singh and his sons Jaswinder and Rajwinder, besides another accused Ajmer Singh were also held guilty yesterday of attempting to kill two relatives of Jagseer.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Gurjant Singh also awarded ten years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 each on all the six accused. The sentences will run simultaneously.

Police said the accused were holding a grudge against Jagseer's family as his brother, an armyman, was allegedly in an illicit relationship with Darshan's daughter.
