A local court today sentenced six persons to life imprisonment in a twin murder case in Ganjam district of the state in 2008.

District and Sessions Judge Madhusudan Dhal convicted the six, five of them being relatives of the victims, after finding them guilty in the murder of Gangadhara Sahu and Jayaram Sahu on November 9, 2008.

The court acquitted three others due to lack of evidence.

According to the prosecution, the murders took place at Kusumi village under Golanthara police station due to rivalry over liquor trade.

The convicts attacked Gangadhara and Jayaram while they were going in a motorcycle for opening of a liquor shop.

Bairi Patra, one of the convicts, was engaged in illegal liquor business and was opposed to opening of the licenced shop at the village.

Patra was arrested from Hyderabad three months after the incident. The other convicts are Jaggi Patra, Rameya Patra, Lakheya Patra, Sanyasi Patra and K Appa Rao.
