Six militants belonging to the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army(GNLA) today surrendered with arms and ammunition in Meghalaya's North Garo Hills district, police said.

The militants identified as Pilick M Sangma, Amit R Sangma, Sengning D Sangma, Belseng T Sangma, Sadam R Marak and Binetson N Marak today surrendered, district Superintendent of Police J F K Marak said.

They also deposited one AK 47 rifle with two magazines and 58 rounds of ammunition, a pistol with one magazine and five rounds of ammunition, a grenade and a wireless set, the SP said.

Over 20 militants belonging to different militant organisations in the Garo Hills region have surrendered in the past one month after police intensified with their counter insurgency operations in the jungles.

The surrendered militants will be formally given livelihood trainings and also a surrender package so they can lead normal life, a senior police officer said.
