Six persons, including the district vice-president of Vanniyar Sangam and three college students, have been arrested here in connection with the torching of a state run liquor outlet in the district early this month in which an employee died.

Police said Vanniyar Sangam district vice president Muthusamy and the others, who were arrested last night, were today produced before a court here which remanded them to judicial custody, police said.

Police said Murugesan, who was arrested under the National Security Act a year ago and later released, is wanted in connection with the case.

He is absconding, police said.

The deceased Selvam (43) had stayed back in the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) shop to check the accounts when some persons set fire to it after closing the shutters, not noticing that he was inside, on August 4.
