Six kids drowned in Ganga barrage

In a tragic incident, six children drowned in the Ganga barrage yesterday near here where they had gone to have bath in a bid to beat the sweltering heat, the police said today.

While the bodies of the three victims were fished out yesterday night, the remaining three were recovered today, said Colonelganj Circle Officer, Inspector Sunil Gupta.

The victims' bodies were sent for autopsy and subsequently handed over to their families members, he added.

The deceased were identified as Abhishek alias Tainyya (14), Aman (13), Sahibe-Alam (14), Kaif alias Tunne (12), Anshu (13) and his brother Baba (12), all residents of Ajeetganj in Babupurwa area of the district.

 

All six had gone to Ganga Barrage to take bath and they drowned, the CO said, adding that when one of the children started drowning, others rushed to save him and they all got trapped in the deep water.

The police also said the children had come to the spot riding three bicycles.
