Six killed, 25 injured in bus mishap

Six people, including four women were killed and 25 others injured today when their overloaded bus fell into a pond here.

The mishap occurred when the overloaded bus, from Sabroom sub-divisional town hit a culvert at Khepabari and rolled down into a wayside pond this noon as the driver lost control of it, District Magistrate of South Tripura Debasish Basu.

"Six persons including four women died on the spot and the 25 injured, including a nine-year old child were admitted in different hospitals of South Tripura district and neighbouring Gomati district," Basu told reporters here.

The state government has announced ex-gratia relief of Rs 10,000 to the next of the kin of the deceased and would bear all expenses for the treatment of the injured, he added.
 

The bus driver is absconding and efforts are on to nab him, Basu said.
