Six persons were killed and as many injured after an LPG cylinder exploded in a house where fireworks were being manufactured in Chandpur, police said today.

A large stock of fireworks stored in the house caught fire after the blast which was put out by locals before the fire brigade arrived.

The house collapsed due to the blast. Two neighbouring houses were also damaged in the explosion.

Five of a family were among those killed. The deceased were identified as Yameen (65) his son Haseen (35), Haseen's wife Bhuri (28), Haseen's daughter Humera (5), Kanik Fatima, a beggar and Yameen's uncle, Tufail.

Six people residing in the nearby houses sustained injuries.

Yameen's family was engaged in the profession of making firecrackers for three generations, police said.

The cause of the accident seemed to be a leaking gas cylinder, but the actual reason would be known only after further investigation, they said.
