Six panchaloha idols were found in Kaduvaiyaru river at a village near here today.

Two women fishing in the river this afternoon came across a hard substance and pulled it out. Later, it was found to be the idol of Goddess Saraswathi and on subsequent search five more idols were found, officials said.

Two metal boxes used for keeping the idols were also fished out.

On information, the VAO and Vailankanni police rushed to the spot and seized the idols. Archaeology experts are examining the idols to ascertain their antique values.

Police are investigating to find if the idols were stolen by thieves from some temples and later thrown into the river.
