At least six persons, including three women, were killed and another was seriously injured when the jeep in which they were travelling hit a tree here, police said.
The vehicle, carrying seven persons, was on its way from Phulbani to Balimela when it dashed against the tree at Putupadar last night, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Muniguda Ananta Prasad Mallick said.
Six of its occupants died on the spot and the vehicle was severely damaged in the accident, the SDPO said.
The injured was undergoing treatment in a hospital at Bisamcuttack.
The police have registered a case and investigation is on, the police said.
