Six pilgrims were killed and seven others injured when a car they were traveling in, collided head-on with a bus near Bambore on Jodhpur-Jaisalmer Highway, police said today.

"The car carrying pilgrims from Jhalawar and Kota districts, was hit by a bus coming from opposite direction, while attempting to over-take a vehicle near Bambore on Jodhpur-Jaisalmer highway late last night," DCP (West) Preeti Jain said.

While four persons died on the spot, two others died on their way to hospital, she said, adding the pilgrims were going to Ramdeora in Pokhran to pay obeisance to the folk deity Baba Ramdev.

The seven injured have been rushed to a hospital of which two were admitted to the ICU, Jain said.

Following the accident, irate locals tried to set the bus on fire, but their attempts were foiled by police which rushed to the spot immediately and dispersed them, the DCP said.

Three days back, a bus was set ablaze by the people on the same place, when a passenger bus had hit a small utility vehicle engaged in service to the pilgrims, killing two people.
