At least half a dozen police personnel, including an officer, were injured when they were attacked by an armed gang of highway dacoits near here in the wee hours today.

The injured personnel were part of a police team which was patrolling the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway during the night hours, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Jawhar Division) Pradeep Jadhav told PTI on phone.

The patrolling party spotted a group of dacoits near Dahanu and tried to nab them. Instead of retreating, the criminals assaulted the men in uniform, leaving six of them injured, he said.

A team has been rushed to the spot to gather more details, Jadhav said.
