Six race horses were killed and five persons were injured today near here after the truck in which the horses were being transported went out of control and toppled, police said.

"The horses fell on one another when the truck went out of control and toppled. Under the impact, the animals were killed," Deputy Police Superintendent, (Ullundurpet), K Radhakrishnan said.

He said it appeared that the mishap was due to the negligence of the driver. "Though the crew, including the driver, were injured, they are safe," he told PTI.

The mishap occured at Pathoor off Ulundurpet near here.

The truck was heading towards Chennai from Kodaikanal where the animals had taken part in an event.
