Six persons were sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment by a court here today for raping a married woman in Mangalpur area in Odisha's Jajpur district two-and-a-half years ago.
Jajpur Additional District and Sessions Court Judge (ADJ) Bikram Kumar Pradhan while awarding the jail terms, also slapped a penalty of Rs 5000 each on the six for the crime committed in February 2014 and ordered the sum be made available to the victim.
Failure to pay the penalty would attract at least six additional months in prison, the court ruled after convicting them under section 376(D) (gangrape) and 34 (common intention) of IPC.

According to the prosecution, the victim, a 37-year-old married woman and mother of four was returning home alone after getting down from a bus at Mangalpur stop on February 17, 2014 evening.
Finding her alone, the six people forcibly took her a lonely place and raped her there in turns. The victim lost her senses following the gangrape.
She returned home after regaining her senses and reported the matter to her husband who is a truck helper. Later, a complaint was filed with the Sukinda police in this connection following which all the six were arrested.
