A six-year-old who was
sleeping with her mother was allegedly carried away, raped and dumped in a bush adjacent to their house within Shamuktala police station limits of Alipurduar district.
The mother, who suddenly woke up, found her daughter missing from the bed on Monday night and raised a hue and cry.
The girl's father is a labourer and the family lives in a ramshackle hut at Pottola, a tribal pocket.
The girl, who was found in a bush, was taken to the nearest Primary Health Centre and then to the district hospital.
Shamuktala OC L P Bhutia said they have spoken to the girl to get a description of the man. Investigations were on.
