A skeleton, suspected to be of a man who had deserted his wife and daughter and gone missing 10 years ago, was found inside his locked three-storey house at Bantra in Howrah district today.

The skeleton was found on the bed by the daughter, who with her mother returned to the house which had been lying locked for all these years after her father, Tarit Chatterjee, went missing, police source said.

Chatterjee was said to have been with Indian Navy about 25 years ago, but lost his job. He then started a business which ran into huge losses, after which his wife along with their daughter left for her parents' house at Ramnagar where they remained all these years, the sources said.

The house was locked from inside when Chatterjee's wife and daughter arrived and they broke open the door to enter, they said.

After finding the skeleton the police were informed who took it away for forensic tests.

Chatterjee was last seen in the area by his neighbours in 2003, the sources added.
