A skeleton, suspected to be that of a Japanese soldier killed during the Second World War, was found in Manipur's Bishenpur district which had witnessed a fierce battle between the Japanese and British forces.

The skeleton was found while digging was on in Phubala village yesterday, officials said today.

Places near the village had witnessed the fight between the two forces.

The skeleton, believed to be of a Japanese soldier, would be sent for examination by the experts.

The Japanese war monument at Maiba Lokpa Ching, about 10 km north of Phubala, in Bishenpur district was built some two decades ago in memory of those Japanese soldiers who had been killed during the war.
