Skill training school to be started at prison

With the twin objectives of weaning the inmates away from criminal activities and providing them a skill for their future livelihood, the central prison here will converted into a skill training school.

Jail Suerpintendent A Murugesan said government wing of the Industrial Training Institute would train the prisoners in various trades including fitter, electrician, computer operator, tailoring and welder courses.

Installation of infrastructure facilities for providing the training was progressing and the government had allocated Rs 3. 65 crore it. The ITI wing in the prison would have 36 teachers to train.

Murugesan said the governent employment and training department is starting the Government ITI wing in the prison, the first of its kind in the state. The ITI would function in one of the blocks of the prison till a permanent building was constructed, he said.
 

The inmates of the prison had been already trained in cooking, tailoring and handmade paper making, he said.
